What a Party!!!

Saturday was such a fun day! Thanks to everyone who made it out to enjoy cookies, lemonade and all the fantastic sales at Gretchen & Co. I had a blast getting pictures of all the kids (and dog!!)

Sunday was a bit more nostalgic. After a really great breakfast with Arndis we headed down to Pages on Queen St. West. They were having a 25% off sale because they are closing. That means my two favorite book stores in the city will be gone. Earlier this year David Mirvish Books on Art closed it’s doors and now is an online store.

I find this really sad. There is nothing I enjoy more on a cold winters day than lounging about in book stores piling over photography books with a huge cup of tea. I remember when the giant Chapters stores started popping up and there was one in the market in Ottawa. The photography section was the size my bedroom and I found a massive David Lachapelle book that held my attention all afternoon. Then a couple years later in the Montreal Chapters I discovered Sally Mann, and I swear her book Immediate Family completely changed my life. Then in Pages, I discovered some really out there photographers like Richard Kern and Joel-Peter Witkin. The list goes on and on..The last time I was in Chapters the photography section was reduced to a portion of a bookshelf with the obvious Ansel Adams, Anne Geddes and that guy who takes pictures of Weinmariners, it was really pathetic. Anyways, that’s my rant for the day. I’m going to really miss Pages and I always look longingly at the locked doors of David Mirvish Books as I pass by. If Nicholas Hoare Books ever closes I’m most definitely going to cry.
