How to Dress for the Shoot
I always recommend keeping it simple. No busy patterns, no logos, no thin stripes. It’s best to keep it casual, kids like to feel free and comfortable in their clothing. If they feel restrained it’s going to show on their faces. If you have more than one child or you want photos of the entire family make sure you are all wearing similar colours. Feel free to bring a variety of clothes to the shoot, we can take lots of breaks to change outfits. In the end it will give you a larger variety of shots to choose from. Below are a some of my recommendations for incredible clothes!

Planet Kid
Planet Kid has been my go to place for years whenever I’ve had a baby shower coming up. My little nephew is probably just fitting into his cowboy jacket now! Planet Kid is owned by the talented designer of Toronto-based kids clothing line Hankware. Her mission is: “To create the coolest kids’ boutique in Toronto”. I would say she has been successful in her mission. This store is jam packed with lots of local labels like Baby Ben, Red Thread and Patouche (also listed below). I love shopping here not just because they carry great stuff but because they are really friendly too, the mood is always warm at Planet Kid. The store has just recently moved to a new location at 87 Roncesvalles. I highly recommend you check them out!

Gretchen & Co.
Gretchen & Co. has a wide range of classy designer children’s clothing. Walking into the store you feel like you’ve been transported to a posh children’s boutique in Paris. You’ll be wishing they made these clothes in your size, I know I was. The shop is located at 424 Eglington Ave. West. You can also shop online here. Gretchen & Co. is offering my readers a 30% discount. You just have to enter the code: summer30 when checking out!

Patouche
I was completely blown away the first time I saw Patouche clothes for kids, they are gorgeous. Handmade right here in Toronto. The designs are exquistite, the fabrics to die for. Can you tell I love it?! If you want clothes that are one of a kind and will transfer well into photos Patouche is a great place to look. You can purchase Patouche clothing online at their Etsy shop or at Planet Kid located at 87 Roncesvalles Ave.

Fancy Pants Kids
Fancy Pants Kids has extremely fun costumes if you are looking to bring a little spice to your shoot. If your little guy gets shy it’s great to do something silly to get things warmed up. I had a blast doing the photos for their web site, just imagine 10 kids running around in capes and dragon costumes. It really was a very animated morning! Fancy Pants Kids is a Mom run business out of Toronto. The quality is incredible and the colours are dramatic!
